In 1989, Bienestar Human Services was founded as a direct response to the lack of resources available to the community at the height of the HIV/AIDS crisis. Since then, Bienestar has grown into a community-based social services organization serving Greater Los Angeles, with a focus on identifying and addressing emerging health issues faced by Latinx and LGBTQ+ populations — while welcoming anyone in need of our services.
In 1997, Bienestar launched Transgeneros Unidas, the first program of its kind in Los Angeles County dedicated to serving transgender Latinas.
Bienestar reaches its communities through innovative and compassionate peer-to-peer modeling that is 100% culturally relevant. We have a diverse staff that meets clients with understanding and acceptance, building trust and fostering a unique sense of community.
In early 2020, Clinica Bienestar opened its doors, expanding our mission by bringing direct healthcare services to the communities we serve. Today, Bienestar’s programs encompass HIV/AIDS prevention, STI testing and treatment, mental health services, substance use, harm reduction, and primary care. We operate community centers across Los Angeles County in East Los Angeles, Hollywood, Long Beach, Pomona, San Fernando Valley, and South Los Angeles.
Over the past three decades, Bienestar has continued to prove itself as a leader in health equity and social justice. All of our services are free or low cost, and no one will ever be turned away for their inability to pay.
